The New Jersey Spine Specialists ( is a private practice group of orthopedic spine surgeons that is looking for an advanced practice provider (NP/PA) interested in surgical care to join their team on a full-time basis.

The practice’s main office is located at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, NJ and there is a satellite location at Hackensack UMC Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, NJ.
No experience is necessary and all appropriate training will be provided.

There are limited on-call and weekend responsibilities.

Job duties will include collaborating with physicians in delivering direct patient care at all stages including in the out-patient office, peri-operatively, surgically, and post-operatively in the hospital as well as assisting with the general administrative needs of the practice. Specifics duties of the job will include:

Inpatient care

Rounding/discharging/transfer, etc
Hospital inpatient and emergency room consults during business hours

Outpatient care

Management of routine follow up in office and direction of managed care with physician
Clinical history and physicals with presentation to attending physician- SBAR format
Formulating treatment algorithm with attending physician
Management of post-operative concerns/inquiries/feedback, etc.

First and second assisting in the operating room setting

OR room preparation, patient positioning and perioperative surgical groundwork
Surgical exposure, defining intra operative anatomy and pathology prior to the arrival of the assisting surgeon. Closing case to include suturing, wound closure and application of sterile dressing. Witnessed transport to PACU/ICU.
PACU managed care with directed post-operative orders
Hospital facilities serviced
Overlook Hospital
Mountainside Hospital
Essex surgical Center

Coordinating pre-operative clinical work up for surgical care – i.e. (Pre-surgical planning)

Clinical paperwork including; H&P’s, Pre-admission testing, consents, etc
Collecting and gathering pre-operative surgical data (radiographs, reports, etc)
Coordination with OR staff/Hospital/Vendor selection to direct operative care

Office Based Duties

Patient office visits including Intakes, History/Physicals and follow up evaluations
Handling patient inquiries that may include; telephone, email, webpage and/or internet based and provide appropriate medical care, prescription refills, surgical/non-surgical clinical questions and or counseling to meet individual patient needs.

Clerical Duties

Help maintain the office EMR with proper documentation
Understanding and utilizing hospital EMR systems for inpatient care
Medical appeals and peer to peer authorizations with insurance medical directors
Disability forms and work restrictions after collaboration with attending physician
Help maintaining MACRA Compliance and MIPS input/follow up
Assist in organizing medical supplies, sample medications, Braces/Orthotics, etc.
OVH NSQIP medical surveys and hospital compliance for NJSS practice
