TerraCycle is an innovative, highly publicized, fast-growth eco company that creates solutions for collecting, recycling and upcycling previously non-recyclable waste. TerraCycle is an international upcycling and recycling company that takes difficult-to recycle-packaging and turns it into affordable, innovative products. Founded in 2001, TerraCycle is the world’s leader in the collection and reuse of non-recyclable post-consumer waste, working with major brand partners across the globe to collect used packaging and products that would otherwise be destined for landfill. TerraCycle repurposes that waste into new, innovative materials and products that are available online and through major retailers. The waste is collected through TerraCycle’s free recycling programs and Zero Waste Box platform. Our free recycling programs also act as fundraising opportunities for your school or favorite non-profit.
If you want to work for a company with a mission you can truly believe in, you belong at TerraCycle! We are the world leader in collecting and recycling waste that is traditionally considered non-recyclable. In conjunction with several of the largest and most prominent consumer products companies in the world, TerraCycle is now advancing an international initiative on the future of packaging, toward the end of disposable packaging. The “service” is to be launched in early 2019 initially in both Europe and the US. We are currently hiring for the initial staff for full-time work at our New Jersey headquarters.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about durable, reusable packaging and materials. This position will be responsible for designing, sourcing, and project managing this new line of durable products.

• 2+ years of professional experience.
• Fluent with 2D and 3D software design tools
• Very knowledgeable of sustainable and reusable materials, recycled plastics, and closed loop product design
• Enthusiastically find and source products, product suppliers, and vendors
• Strong sketching skills and ability to articulate ideas
• Comfortable designing and fabricating with many types of materials ie. metals, glass, plastics, and fabrics
• Strong ability to assess order of priorities, juggle multiple tasks, and project manage
• Basic sewing and patterning skills
• Tabletop/ kitchen goods, beauty or healthcare design experience a plus
• Quality control experience is a plus

• Having experience is important, but attitude is right up there, too. We want to work with like-minded sunny, personable, ‘yes’ people who are game for tackling far-fetched ideas and turning them into reality.

• You are a master of materials and tools. You know when a product requires a double walled vacuum for insulation, the most effective materials to create that package and the tools to design and prototype it.
• You are attentive to detail and highly organized. Execution matters. You can work quickly when projects change, but still take the time to check your work before going into production.
• You are collaborative but self-directed. You enjoy brainstorming with your fellow designers, but are comfortable being independent and requiring minimal guidance.
• Bonus points for being eco-minded. You are a conscious of your environmental impact and would like to be a part of our mission to eliminate the idea of waste.

Our Design environment is very fast paced and every day is different. You’ll often be called into meetings with our CEO and thrown into a crazy-but-fun new project with an even crazier deadline. We have a colorful and inspiring open office space made with recycled materials, and an open courtyard in the center where we often have meetings and lunch (sometimes at the same time). Dress code is relaxed and informal.

• Generous paid time off
