**Position Description** :
The ACNO for the Heart and Vascular Service Line (HVCSL) provides collaborative executive leadership for the integration of state-of-the-science cardiovascular nursing practice, education and research to advance the delivery of nursing and interprofessional continuum-based care. The ACNO is accountable for driving operational budgets, developing, evaluating and sustaining the most efficient work processes at the core of team-based care, and establishing and measuring standard metrics to gauge optimal quality and safe patient care. The ACNO, in partnership with the CAO and Physician Lead of the Service Line, sets the vision and strategic priorities for the development, implementation and evaluation of evidence- and consensus-based clinical pathways. Consistent with service line responsibilities, the ACNO serves as clinical leader for ensuring expert nursing practice and models for interprofessional collaboration and communication to promote excellence in coordination and continuity of care. As an executive leader, there is an expectation that the ACNO will progressively demonstrate and exceed competencies in domains for health care leadership, communication and relationship management, knowledge of the health care environment, leadership, professionalism, and business skills and principles as defined by the American Organization for Nurse Executives.
Leadership responsibilities focus on advancing nursing practice through excellence in clinical care, education and research, program development, growth of patient care services, continuous quality improvement, fiscal oversight and management of capital and human resources, supervision and coaching of personnel. The scope and influence of the ACNO extends to all provisions of nursing care that are aligned to standards and mandates from accreditation agencies, professional organizations (e.g., Cardiothoracic and Vascular Specialty Organizations) and designations of excellence (American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet Recognition Program). The ACNO works jointly with administrators and clinicians within the service line to build a cohesive, focused and dedicated interprofessional leadership and clinical team to accomplish the strategic vision and imperatives for the HVCSL . The ACNO also engages patients, families and community stakeholders in redesigning care and services to improve patient outcomes and patient/family experiences.
The ACNO collaborates with entity CNOs and Clinical Directors to guide research utilization and translation of evidence into practice throughout the Health System. The ACNO inspires all levels of nurses and supports opportunities for professional development, career advancement, quality improvement, and scientific clinical inquiry. The position also bridges relationships with University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing faculty to advance education, research and innovation within an academic partnership model.
The ACNO shall remain current with trends and changes in nursing professional/practice in health environment. The ACNO will ensure that department/staff meet The Joint Commission, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Board of Nursing, Professional Nurse Associations, and other regulator/licensure requirements.
The incumbent shall maintain a direct reporting relationship to the entity-based Chief Nurse Officer with key accountabilities for service line integration across the Health System under the oversight of the CAO, Service Line. The incumbent in collaboration with the Physician Leader of the Service Line assumes the responsibility for reporting quality and performance improvement issues to the Clinical Chair as well as the CNO Council and the CMO/CNO Alliance.
The ACNO will participate as a team member in the Ambulatory Council for Nursing and Clinical Practice, chaired by Associate Executive Director, Clinical Operations, CPUP.
The ACNO will participate, as required, on the Chief Nursing Officer Council as agenda pertains to practice and service line integration.
**Minimum Requirements** :
Master of Science in Nursing; licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, specialty certification. Minimum of seven years of experience in specialty nursing practice or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
Master s Degree or Doctorate in Nursing with a focus in heart and vascular nursing; a Nurse Practitioner with prescription writing privileges issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and maintains Advanced Practice Certification.
**Additional Information** :
Minimum of seven years of experience in specialty nursing practice or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
1. Possesses a strong knowledge base of service line-clinical care with clinical and leadership experience in the delivery of care to both inpatient and ambulatory populations.
2. Has experience in oversight of programs to improve the efficiency and quality of patient care.
3. Has a clear vision for quality service and practice, and shows evidence of the ability to engage others in that vision.
4. Demonstrates the ability to build strong relationships and trust.
5. Earned a reputation for high integrity, and strong and effective interpersonal relationship skills.
6. Has an impressive record of developing and implementing innovative care deliver models, professional practice standards, and policies and procedures/
7. Demonstrates experience in developing and monitoring quality initiatives, and monitoring regulatory requirements and standards.
8. Understands requirements for clinical trials with regard to responsible conduct of research, training requirements for research staff, and adherence to research protocols and care delivery to patients enrolled in clinical trials.
1. Shows evidence of learning from past experiences in modifying behaviors and leadership style, and adapting to change.
2. Has experience with and/or understands expectations for the culture of Magnet designated organizations.
3. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication.
4. Provides examples of successful leadership in achieving excellence in practice and growth of units, departments, and/or services. .
