General Purpose
The Payroll Supervisor oversees the Companys Payroll unit. This person is responsible for monitoring all tasks necessary to accomplish the enterprises payroll processing objectives. The majority of this persons time is spent planning, coordinating and managing the functions of the Payroll unit. This position requires an extremely detail orientated person with significant knowledge of payroll administration, including state and federal regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Maintains payroll information by directing the collection, calculation, and entering of data into the Payroll System.
* Updates payroll records by reviewing and approving changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, and job titles, and department/ division transfers.
* Pays employees by directing the production and issuance of paychecks or electronic transfers to bank accounts.
* Prepares reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages.
* Determines payroll liabilities by approving the calculation of employee federal, state and local income and social security taxes, and employers social security and unemployment taxes.
* Balances the payroll accounts to the Companys general ledger by resolving payroll discrepancies.
* Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests in a prompt and timely manner.
* Maintains payroll guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures.
* Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
* Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
* Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
* Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.
* Manage a staff of 3:4 payroll coordinators, including counseling and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
* Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Education and Experience
* Bachelors degree from a four year college or university
* A minimum of five years of payroll management experience
* Must have experience using ADP payroll products
* Must have strong financial and accounting skills
* Must have experience with and knowledge of federal, state and local payroll tax withholding and reporting requirements
* Must be customer focused; vendor or client service experience is strong plus
